About
Open to young members of The Ogden Museum of Southern Art at any category, the Kohlmeyer Circle is named in honor of New Orleans artist and collector Ida Kohlmeyer (1912-1997). Her many works in the Museum's collection demonstrate her zestful celebration of life and art.
Inspired by her spirit, the young art and culture enthusiasts of the Kohlmeyer Circle creatively support the mission of The Ogden Museum by actively fostering events and programs, encouraging volunteerism and cultivating membership. The Kohlmeyer Circle is administered by a board of volunteer members.
Past projects include:
- Producing a fashion show by Project Alabama featuring hand-made clothing
- Sponsoring a literary luncheon with a panel of writers and walking tour of famous French Quarter sites
- Developing an on-line component for the O What A Night gala auction
- Staging the O-Mazing Race, a scavenger hunt by horse-drawn carriages through downtown New Orleans

Our Name
The Kohlmeyer Circle is named in honor of the late New Orleans artist Ida Kohlmeyer, whose life and works embody the spirit of art and celebration. A nationally-recognized artist, Kohlmeyer's passion and joy extended beyond the creation of artwork to include a love for collecting art and craft as well. She was a life-long learner whose zest and enthusiasm are an inspiration. She loved the South and stayed, contributing immensely to the cultural landscape here. The Ogden Museum of Southern Art is home to over 26,000 objects including artwork, sculpture, studies, travel journals, slides and publications belonging to the artist, given to the Museum's Goldring Woldenberg Institute for the Advancement of Southern Art and Culture by Kohlmeyer's daughters, Jo Ellen Bezou and Jane Lowentritt.
