The Michael Brown and Linda Green Collection
The Ogden Museum of Southern Art proudly presents the Michael Brown and Linda Green Collection, hand-selected by Brown from New Orleans artists and galleries over the past 30 years.
The collection offers striking insight into the art and gallery scene in New Orleans in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Shows at local museums and galleries, the Contemporary Arts Center and alternative spaces fostered the growth of the collection. Many of the featured artists were, at that time, still emerging in the local art scene.
Although Brown says he did not intend to collect Southern art in particular, he made a conscious decision to support local art dealers and artists as his fascination with art intensified. The collection includes a range of media - paintings, mixed media and sculpture - with a special focus on sculpture.
Featured artists in the sculpture collection on exhibit include: John Scott, Clifton Webb, Arthur Silverman, Martin Payton, William Ludwig, Molly Mason and Arthur Prince. Also included are paintings by Noel Rockmore, Fred Trenchard, Rolland Golden, Robert Warrens and New York-based artists Peter Dean and Justin Forbes. A mixed media work by Jose Torres Tama rounds out the exhibition.
