Job Title: Photography Intern

Photograph events and programming at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art!

Qualifications:
  • Intermediate to advanced level photographer—must be an upperclassmen or graduate student
  • Must provide own photography and photo editing equipment
  • Interest in event photography
  • Ability to work independently
  • Organized and practical
  • Knowledge of photo editing technology and ability to edit and quickly turn around photos
  • Knowledge of different file types and photo uploading websites
  • Flexible schedule—may need to work events during the evening/weekend
Internship Tasks:
  • Work with the Ogden Museum’s marketing and PR team to document events. Photographs will be used in marketing and fundraising collateral.
  • Photograph programs and special events hosted by the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, including, but not limited to:
    • Ogden After Hours: the Museum concert series takes place every Thursday from 6 -8PM at the Ogden Museum to support the vibrant local music scene
    • Ogden Family Day: The Ogden Museum is open to the public for a day of creating, dancing, and learning. There are craft tables set up throughout the Museum for kids of all ages and kid friendly performances (August 2014 TBD)
    • White Linen Night: The Ogden Museum welcomes thousands of art patrons to view our opening exhibitions including our annual state-wide juried exhibition, Louisiana Contemporary (August 2, 2014)
    • O What A Night: the Ogden Museum’s annual gala. With over 450 guests in attendance the Gala is an evening filled with art, music and culinary talents that reflect the importance and influence of Southern culture across the globe (October 18, 2014)
    • Other programming includes education activities, tours, exhibition openings, lectures, trunks shows, book signings, and more!

Job Title: Graphic Design Intern

The Ogden Museum of Southern Art is seeking a highly creative and talented graphic design intern to get hands-on experience in creating real-time deliverables.

General Purpose

Provide design and production support for the Communication and Development Departments in producing cutting-edge print and digital materials. The materials created are for all areas of visual communication representing the Museum, including exhibition and program graphics, short-term exhibition branding programs, advertisements, web banners, e-blasts, museum brochures, and direct mail pieces. The goal of this position is to carry the Museum brand across all collateral materials. Make.

This is an opportunity to learn to meld creativity and sophistication in creating the collateral materials the Museum produces and uses to tell its story. You will be able to see a job from concept—through design—to final product. There is a strong emphasis on learning how to prioritize jobs according to deadlines. With the Museum's robust exhibition and programming schedule, this will provide a collection of samples for a personal portfolio.

Education/Experience Requirements

Candidate must be enrolled in or have completed a graphic design program. Skilled in design software, Pages, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, web applications.

Duties & Responsibilities

Work with Museum designers to produce a wide variety of internal and external Museum materials, from entire marketing campaigns (advertisements, rack cards, banners, media kits) to exhibition signage and graphics. Responsible, specifically, for labels for the Collection Galleries, PowerPoint presentations, visitor screens, and materials for Education, Visitor Services, Public Programs, Scholastic, and Lakefront Festival of Arts. Requires knowledge of printing processes. Must remain current on design production software.

Job Title: Summer Education Intern

Description

The intern will work closely with Education Coordinator and Outreach Coordinator to assist with the planning and organizing of activities coordinated by the Education Department such as docent led tours, summer camps the Summer Teen Docent Program and the Family Fair. Additional duties may include research for special projects and assisting other areas of the museum as requested. The intern will also be expected to perform general departmental duties, such as preparation of program packets, creating educational materials, correspondence, educational blog upkeep and scheduling. Candidates must have excellent organizational and basic computer skills and should be comfortable interacting with the public.

This position is an un-paid, part-time position.
Qualifications
  • Interest in the arts, education, working with children and teenagers and experience working in an educational setting helpful
  • Strong interpersonal skills required
  • Strong writing and research skills
  • This internship is open to applicants who have completed at least one year of college
  • Applicants with a major in Art History, Art Education, Fine/Studio Art or Museum Studies are preferred
Time Requirements

Preferably, interns should be available to work from Wednesday, May 28, 2014 – Friday, August 1, 2014; approximately 20-30 hours per week for 10 weeks.

Job Title: Development Intern

Description

The Ogden Museum of Southern Art’s Development Department is responsible for all individual and corporate fundraising activities. These activities include grant writing, the Museum Membership program, special events, donor-centric campaigns, planned giving, sponsorships, and many other activities that support the growth of the Ogden Museum and its mission.

Responsibilities
  • Events/Programming Assist in the creation of marketing materials, tracking of ticket sales, and facilitation of admissions/check-in for Museum programming, including Ogden After Hours (every Thursday evening from 6PM to 8PM). Support the development team in the planning and execution of annual fundraising events such as Sippin’ in Seersucker (May), The O-Mazing Race (June), and The O What a Night Gala (October). Support the Development and Curatorial departments in the processing and organization of artist submissions for annual juried exhibition, Louisiana Contemporary (August).
  • Membership Assist with processing new memberships, renewals, and member gifts.
  • Administration Support the development team in the maintenance of Raiser’s Edge (the Museum’s constituent database), including researching, filing, and updating lists.
  • Other Assist development director as requested, including donor research (foundations, corporations), departmental copying, preparing mailings, organizing inventory/ordering department supplies, and other tasks as assigned.
Requirements

Qualified applicants must be self-starters with a professional demeanor, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work in a team environment. Job Title: Summer Teen Docent

Description

An Ogden Museum Summer Teenage Docent will train to lead tours of the museum, serve as counselors for Ogden Museum summer camps and will participate in an outreach program aimed at bringing art to children who are not able to physically visit the museum. This program also aims to broaden the docents’ experience and knowledge through workshops and encounters with artists so that they may confidently and enthusiastically teach and interact with younger children. The Ogden sees this program as a tool to enhance knowledge, build critical leadership skills and allow docents to be role models.

All interns are expected to treat the museum staff, artists, members, and patrons with respect; conduct themselves appropriately and professionally and uphold the values and mission of the Ogden by acting as a representative of the museum.

Please note that an Ogden Museum Summer Docent will receive a stipend at the end of the program.

Qualifications
The applicant must be an Orleans or Jefferson Parish public school student Have an interest in the arts, education, and/or working with children
Time Requirements

Interns must be available to work from Wednesday, May 28, 2014 - Friday , July 25, 2014; Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
