Dear Ogden Museum of Southern Art supporter:

This has been a year filled with challenges and accomplishments for the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, as well as for the city of New Orleans. Despite a difficult economic climate, the Museum remains determined to continue its vital mission of promoting Southern art, craft and culture to the general public.

Your contribution will make a difference. The Museum celebrated its 10th anniversary this year. Your ongoing support of the Museum and its programs ensures that the Ogden will continue to make its next 10 years as memorable.

This past year has included:
– Education programs for Children and Adults: Artists and Sense of Place, which places in a public or private school an artist who works with students to create art that is then exhibited at the Museum; Southern Storytellers, featuring authors Rick Bragg, Ellen Gilchrist, Winston Groom, John Biguenet and Tim Gautreaux; Ogden After Hours, the Museum's acclaimed Thursday night music series; and The Art of Southern Film, which showcased films, Johnny Cash's America and a live re-scoring of Deliverance. by Helen Gillet and Clint Maedgen.
–Exhibitions: Thirty-four exhibitions were produced this year, featuring Bo Bartlett: Paintings 1984-2000, Randy Shull: Crossing Boundaries, Arthur Q. Davis, Legacy of a Modern Architect, and Storming the Ramparts: Objects of Evidence, which was a collaboration with the neighboring Confederate Memorial Hall Museum.
–Special Events: Grammy-award winning musician Terence Blanchard in concert (Blanchard also recorded his latest album in the Museum's Patrick F. Taylor Library).

The museum is renovating the Patrick F. Taylor Library and the Clementine Hunter Education Wing. The Library will showcase the OgdenĂs 18th and 19th century art, while the Education Wing will be a center of arts education for children and adults. Both locations have already been the sites for art and music programs.

Yes, every contribution counts; $20 will make a difference. And if all of our supporters contribute, the combined donations will have a substantial impact on the services we will be able to provide to the community.

As an advocate of the Ogden, your past and current support has been integral to continuing its mission. In 2010, your assistance will play an even larger role in allowing the museum to have exhibitions, host informative panels, educate youth of the region on the importance of art, and make the Ogden THE voice of Southern culture.

Best,

J. Richard Gruber
